Umm, you don't have to buy it, Microsoft did.I thought Microsoft sold it, hehe. Windows XP gave their blessing for gaming, meaning that any respected game maker will be forced to update their newer games for Windows XP or they'll lose business. Well, of course game maker will add a new driver, so what, what does that mean? You can play games, doesn't mean it's better. Optimize their new games for Windows XP. Yea, for XP to kick in right, and do it's wonder's. I check there sight, they talk stability, driver's and crashing the game, not the system, isn't that just super. Sure you can play some games on XP, you just might have to do a little work, O yea, maybe some won't work. Haha

To date I clam XP is not the best gaming OS, Win98se is. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against XP, OK, maybe a little. I do plan on getting XP, just not for gaming, but I'll try that too. Hay, I know you didn't say XP was the best OS for gaming, let alone did you even say it was good for gaming. So this is my opinion on XP and gaming, anybody's more then welcome to frag me or prove me wrong.

I don't think it's Microsoft fault that games are slightly slower in Windows XP. It's Nvidia and ATI's fault (to some extent). Once ATI and nVidia have a chance to get used to Windows XP, they'll be able to improve their drivers and improve performance. Personally, I think Windows XP's gaming performance will be up to par with Windows 98SE before year's end.

From what I seen 5-25% is a little more then slightly. And one month to catch up to Win98se would be pretty tough. If they just catch up, let alone pass Win98se, would be a feather in their hat. Time will tell.

Well, I'm only a casual gamer, so extreme FPS don't really matter to me. As long as the game is smooth then I'm happy. I love Windows XP's interface and productivity features, and IMO they are well worth the minor loss in performance.

Honestly, just like every other OS that I've run, It is very stable as well as fast once it is set up properly. I had some problems early on, but once I got settled with good drivers, I've had ZERO problems. I actually have to work at crashing now- but an aged peice of 32/16 bit mixed code can still bring it all down...
