Whole family uses internet.. lag always.

my whole family uses internet a lot, both my parents have labtops and they both stream movies and tv shows that are from their country/language my sister also has netflix and who knows what else she does..
me on the other hand game on pc a lot also download lots of movies do video editing and watch thousands of hours of youtube

but we have 5mb down and 0.50 up... whatever the case.
i always get lag spikes in my games to the point where i cannot play and videos cannot load, i am the only one in my family used wired connection

is there anyway i can buy my own modem so i can be the only one accessing it?
drives me crazy

You've got an extremely small upstream pipe at 500kb/sec. It doesn't take much downstream traffic to saturate that upstream with ACK's, at which time you'll be rate limited to 500kb/sec. You need to either limit the amount of simultaneous streaming or look into a higher tier service.
