Question Why can't I get consistent 1080p @ 60FPS on IJATGC with RTX/PT ?

I know this is like.... the most demanding game right now. But, even still, I can't even get 1080p @ 60FPS consistently unless I disable RTX/PT. How do I fix this?

My PC
CPU: Ryzen 3900X 12-Core
GPU: 4080 Super
RAM: 64GB

What gives? MY CPU is only under half load. Do you really need a 4090 to run path tracing and ray tracing properly on this game? I can max out all the settings to supreme just fine and not have any issue.... until i turn on path tracing and ray tracing, then framerate drops like a rock. Cant even get consistant 60. It's only when I turn on RTX. I tried frame gen, DLSS, everything. Nothing works. What gives?

1| You should be listing your specs like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

2| You should be at 1440p at the very least with that GPU. 1080p is wasted potential for your RTX4080 Super.

3| Have you tried with DLSS off...? Speaking of which what sort of in-game settings are you on?

Cpu matters way more at 1080p. If this is solely gaming a 5700x3d would be better. If you can find them 5800x3d

You did not list the game but if it is something like cyberpunk then yes it beats even a 4090 into submission when you start turning on the fancy eye candy.

Watch the cpu load and gpu load carefully. If the gpu is at 100% and the cpu is not then it maybe a better video card will help. If neither is at 100% the it is likely bad coding by the game company. There are a lot of game companies that rush garbage to market and try to fix it later...starfield for example. There is also the case where a game is only using a limited number of cores so the cpu load make look low because it is a average of all the cores.

In general this is a lazy game development company issue. They do not spend the time to optimize their code they would rather just make the customer spend more money on hardware so they can spend less on software development.

Monitor. I use a Sony 55 inch TV

Graphical Game Settings/Visuals all maxed out: I tried with DLSS and Frame Gen. The thing is: The frame-drop only happens if I turn on PT/RT. Without those 2 things, it maintains consistant 60FPS. As soon as I turn on PT/RT, frame-rate drops if I go outside to open areas where the sun is shining

I haven't played IJ and the Great Circle but a quick search shows most folks with a 4080 super are not getting a consistent 60fps with path tracing at 1080p even with upscaling.. Also your cpu utilization needs to be measured PER CORE, not as an aggregate like you may see on some monitoring suites. If any one or more cores is at 90% usage then you are indeed CPU limited. Note that the recommended CPU for AMD starts at a 7700, which is quite a bit more powerful per core than your 3900X. I think you may be expecting too much here.

Thanks for the reply. Ya, a 7700 will perform better per core, but a 3900X has 12 cores, instead of just 8. Nonetheless, my CPU never pushes more than 60% on any core. The fact that a 4080S can't even do it at 1080p, suggests that the game is just poorly optimized. I could be wrong though, was just wondering mostly if anyone noticed the same thing with a 4080S

a few questions.

1 when the cpu is running in game what is your core speed at? quick google search says a 3900x all core drops down to around 4.1GHz.

2 What is your GPU usage vs CPU usage (per core), is one waiting on the other?

Comparing what you said, 12 cores is better then 8 doesn't add up when moving to different generation CPU's. Core for core the 7700x is 33.5% faster then a single core on the 3900x.

Im going off of this Userbenchmark single core performance 7700x 209 vs 3900x 139, if every core could keep 100% efficiency 7700x @ 8 cores would have a score of (209*8) 1672 while the 3900x@ 12 cores would be (139*12) 1668. That doesnt take into account the more cores at 100% usage the slower they run..... the 3900x @ 12 cores 100% drop to 4.1Ghz while the 7700x @ 8 cores 100% only drop to 5.1GHz. Here is also a Cinebench R23 single/multi core review vs the two CPU's
