Why can't people get it straight? Allendale vs. Conroe.

I may be a relative noob to these forums, but even I understand that Conroe denotes that the die physically has 4mb of cache (2mb of which may be disabled), virtualization technology, and 1066 FSB. Allendale (basically) is E4000 series or lower, and does NOT have virtualization tech, only 800 fsb, and 2mb native L2. So why in the world do so many "old salts" of these forums mess this up when they are taking about e6300 or 6400? I see way to many posts by people who should know better. Sure this is a rant, but if others are trying to offer advice and info it would inspire much more confidence in me if they got the basics correct! Hell, maybe I have it all backwords or I have seen so many post contrary to what I have stated above that I am starting to second guess my self

Intel actually planned to have "Allendale", the code name for 2MB cache version of Conroe. Even though they are practically the same, there are two versions of the 2MB cache versions of Conroe.

Conroe 2M: Conroe with half of the L2 cache disabled, so it has same die size and transistor count as the normal Conroe
Allendale: Conroe with half of the L2 cache physically cut out, the die size is smaller, and so is the transistor count

They are starting to have the real Allendales now.

Chillout

People will always get them confused, even PC shops do and they should know better.

As long as they know how much cashe, etc the CPU has, that is all that matters

good reply. reminds me that this is such a small point in the grand scheme of things. However, damn if doesn't make me furious  I think another beer will calm the nerves

Maybe you should be more explicit, and say...another ale, or another lager...pilsener, etc.

The E6300/6400 were originally called Allendale, despite being simply crippled Conroes. Intel changed the definition of Allendale late in the game, hence the confusion. Even the most seasoned techie can get confused when name ambiguity is introduced.

Almost always when I say, "I am going to drink a BEER" I mean something craft brewed or homebrewed. Always reminds me that God loves us and wants us to be happy

Very well typed :)

It should be referred to as Core 2 duo unless you're referring to a specific core in which case it should be expected to get them right. But then again most people can't tell the difference between "you're" and "your" so maybe I'm expecting too much. So if I understand corectly e4xxx is Allendale and e6xxx is Conroe?
