Why do people buy i7-860 if 870 is priced the same?

I was going to buy an i7-860 processor when I found the 870 to be priced exactly the same.

I am not comprehending this... is there something special with the 860 that it did not drop in price?

Even though the 870 sounds better I'm still leaning toward the 860 for some reason, would that be a stupid mistake?

If they have the same price,then go with 870.Its faster(but not much)

The 860 is simply clocked slightly slower than the 870. It's just like getting the i5-760 instead of the i5-750 - they're just clocked faster. Everything else, the cache, memory, etc remains the same - you could say its a part of intel's marketing or for those who aren't too experienced with overclocking.

If you do know how to overclock, then both shouldn't really matter - just go for the cheapest one

Me too,by the time i bought my 860,870 was much more expensive

I'm new to building computers so I guess better to go with the 870 since it's already overclocked for me.

Can any of you guys recommend an Asus (or other) board on the top of your head... I don't plan to have mutli-GPU so one PCI x16 is enough, I also don't need USB3/SATA6 since it's so new and probably hasn't been implemented correctly.

I don't want to pay for this new features that I won't use or anyone for years.

I'm just getting overwhelmed with the motherboard selection. Some people say a particular model is good others claim it fails.

Do you think the Asus P7P55D-EVO is better than the P7P55D ?

The -EVO version is $15 cheaper and seems to have more features.

The P7P55D would cost $130, the P7P55D-EVO $115. There is also the Deluxe that many people like is $140.

These pricing scheme are so strange....

I think I'll go with the EVO version. I see that it's the only one that has a CMOS clear button on the back which could be useful.

And it's the cheapest.

Definitely go for the EVO version,
It has SLI/CF support and a clear CMOS button.(I actually have this board and i am quite satisfied with it)

if its the same price then grab the 870, at the time when i got my 860 in Dec the 870 was like $700 while the 860 was only $299 wasnt worth the extra money for a processor that is just +1 higher on multiplier and like 130mhz faster.

This is kind of a dumb question...of course buy the 870.

I got my 860 at $230.

I think the 860 needs to keep the price up because of the other non HT processors.

Also, the 860 has sold really well, so intel may want to sell some of the 870s too. Its probably just priced slightly higher right now (much less than before).
