[SOLVED] Why does my game freeze when it's opened and then it runs as normal when alt-tabbed?

Hi everyone! I have a windows 10 system and it seems as though some of my games are not running properly. I was just curious if there is a way to solve this without completely wiping my system and reinstalling windows onto it.

So as I stated in the top part- Some of my games tend to have this issue where the games will freeze to one specific frame completely, or they will drop all the way down to 5 FPS and stay around that place while opened. The moment I alt tab- the game will immediately go back to its normal FPS- typically 145ish. (This only happens while the game is in fullscreen by the way)

I have a gut feeling it has something to with Nvidia Shadowplay, but I could be wrong.

Yes, I did reinstall GPU drivers and windows 10 is up to date. I even completely uninstalled GeForce Experience and Nvidia control panel (if it does anything)

Thank you!

i have seen similar recently (not myself, i meant here)

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Alright, after rebooting my PC and Halo Infinite (the game the issue this primarily happens on) I've come to the conclusion the only service that is causing this issue are the 3 NVIDIA services. As soon as I reactivated those 3 services, my game immediately had the issue that we're trying to resolve.

It seems as though this is linked to Nvidia Shadowplay (as I thought before but wasn't 100% sure about). I love having it on as sometimes I hit really cool clips or funny clips in games, but now that this program just doesn't work right, is there a different program I can use instead? Maybe theres a way to resolve this issue so I can continue using Shadowplay? I'm not too sure as to what I should do here.

Thank you so much!!

you could try reinstalling the Nvidia drivers and see if it fixes it.

here are some alternatives to shadowplay - https://www.g2.com/products/nvidia-shadowplay/competitors/alternatives

January Nvidia drivers aren't out yet.
