and the other thing i also realized was that my graphics card was also not recpgnized it said basic dislpay adapter 256mb when it was actually nvidia something 2gb

Solution
Sounds like windows 8.1 havent found the drivers to your graphics card and therefore installed the standard ones.

Go to Nividas website (http://www.nvidia.com/content/global/global.php), download the correct drivers for your graphics card and install them.
This should solve your problem.

Sounds like you are trying ot open up the setup with the 7zip archiving program.
You need to install Geforce drivers, not Geforce Experience.

The resolution cannot me higher since the drivers are not installed. Install the drivers, simple as that.

Well, "nvidia something 2gb" aint gonna help us pinpoint the driver you need either.

Make sure that you have connected your screen to the graphics card and not the motherboard (happens more often then you´d think).

If you have problems knowing what GPU you are using NVidia has a tool under http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers named "Auto-Detect Your GPU"

However if the automatic search fails you might have to manually find the right driver and install it so make sure you know what graphics card you got.

i found something weird when i go to device manager and select display adapters
my graphics card appears as NVIDIA Gforce GT610

but when i click on adjust screen res>>>>> advanced settings it says basic display

then it said to restart And i did it and all of a sudden my res is back to normal my gpu is tooo

Can´t guide you anymore im afraid.
Either you install the drivers correctly and make it work or make a clean install of the whole computer.
If you have trouble doing so, take help from your local Computer repair shop or similar.
