Ok, I admit, I own a lot of AMD stock, and Apple stock too ... but I'm really puzzled as to why AMD stock price is down?

AMD have accomplished much in 2024:
1. Fastest CPU for desktop that crushes Intel.
2. CPUs that don't melt and fail like Intel's 13/14 gen.
3. GPUs that are FPS per watt more efficent than nVidia
4. GPUs that cost A LOT less than nVidia ($2600 for a 5090, yeah ... no)
5. CPU with the most cores that dominates anything Intel has for server grade components

I'm really puzzled why AMD stock is down? I got in around $110/share and it shot up to $200+/share but now has dropped back down to $120/share ... what gives? Is AMD having a difficult time addressing the fanboys and girls to let go of Intel junk and nVidia over priced components?

Just don't get it ... help me understand?!

I'd suggest it may have to do with factors unrelated to any Intel/AMD comparisons.....or fanboys for that matter.

Factors related to the broader economy or the tech sector generally. Or mere uncertainty. It's not enough for Intel to be junk.

The market can easily consider both Intel and AMD to be poor prospects at any given time....such as recently.

AMD went from 50 to 225 in 4 years. You got in after it had more than doubled.

It seems volatility works both ways. Who ever heard of such a thing!

USA restrictions on high value electronics, most likely
https://www.supplychainbrain.com/articles/40723-us-to-announce-new-restrictions-on-exports-to-china

AMD peaked on March 8 at 227

Since then: AMD down about 47 percent and Intel down about 54 percent

But:

Broad market up about 14 percent

QQQ index tracking the Nasdaq 100; up about 16 percent

NASDAQ as a whole; up about 20 percent

Who doesn’t get a big enjoy out of stock-specific risk?

My other stocks are doing well, especially Apple stock ... but AMD have delivered product at both great prices and great performance and it looks like more to come per Jan 6th CES. AMD didn't have major CPU issues like Intel and they didn't have major power connector issues like nVidia and nVidia seem to be more into NPU rather than GPU these days.

I doubt it's related to export restriction top semiconductors by country are:

Taiwan
South Korea
Japan
United State
China

I am VERY concerned about the planned "Tariff increases" by the next goon squad that will run the show for the next 4 years ... aka Captain "fake tan" Bankruptcy himself ... that will trigger some serious Import/Export drops and market isolation.
