Hello All,

I finally decided to upgrade my r9 290 to AMD Sapphire Pulse 9070XT. However upon installing the graphics card to the motherboard I do not get any display signal to my monitor even though the fans are spinning on the GPU.

My rig:
  • Motherboard: MSI x99s Gaming 7
  • CPU: i7 5820k
  • Ram: Vengance 64gb DDR 4
  • Storage: NVME 2 Terabyte Gen 4 by Western Digital
  • PSU: EVGA 750 G2 Super Nova 80 plus Gold
  • OS: Windows 10 which is on the NVME
  • Old GPU: R9 290
  • New GPU: 9070 XT Sapphire Pulse
Trouble shooting that I have done so far (using my r9 290):
  • Updated BIOS to latest driver
  • Removed CMOS Battery and reinstalled it
  • Change bios mode to UEFI only
  • Reinstalled Windows 10 from bootable usb to NVME
  • changed HDMI Cables
  • Tried Display Port
  • Changed PCIE to Gen 3 in Bios
  • Bought another 9070XT and giving same issue
At this point I am not sure what to do. Can it be that my build from 2014 is just not compatible with 9070XT?

Thanks,

Try different video outputs.
Your graphics card has two HDMI and two DP outputs.

What video cables are you using? Any video cable adapters?

Note - DP to HDMI adapter (if you're using one) is unidirectional.
It doesn't work in opposite direction.

I tried both HDMI and DP port. Both cables are hdmi to hdmi and dp to dp. No adapters are used. I tried two differnt HDMI cables and the DP port I purchased new yesterday

Have you cycled through the input ports on the display itself? Have you tried different cables?

Are you using any adapters with the HDMI cable?

Does DisplayPort work?

You are attaching your display/monitor to the GPU and not the motherboard video ports, right?

Yes cycled through the different hdmi options on the monitor, tried the display port input as well

No adapters

Motherboard does not have any video ports

Thanks,
That's an old motherboard.
The new 9070 XT requires motherboards with UEFI support. I've heard of the card working on boards without UEFI, but you may have just found one where it doesn't.

Also, the PSU would be able to supply at least enough power for post/desktop boot. That's not the issue.

I am starting to agree that the age and capabilities of the motherboard are the issue. The aging PSU would have been an issue only when trying to use the GPU after booting.

If the motherboard is already in UEFI mode, make sure everything else is running at default, No tweaks/changes. Try again.

It would be interesting to see how a 7000-series GPU performed in this same configuration.

From what I can find, this motherboard ran mostly on standard BIOS. It did had a UEFI version but UEFI on this motherboard seems to have had many, many issues. The OP may not even have a UEFI mode.

He stated using it earlier. Not sure the mode it is in now.
Shoot. Missed that, thanks. All the forum posts I found about this board and UEFI are of people complaining that things don't work or the board won't even post.

I remember the first iterations of UEFI was a bit rough. It may be that this board's pseudo-UEFI just isn't good enough for the GPU.

Wow, something went seriously wrong with that quote. It links to my post in a totally different thread, but is quoting OP in this one.
Totally off topic here but that might be due to the multiple quote feature of the forums here, you might have selected a quote from another thread another time and it was still in the forum reply.

Lol I've seen that happen to me as well.

Anyway, like I said I hope you find the resolve for the issue you're having with your pc, I just read posts on the random because I never know when I know something that could help somebody.

Thanks, but I'm not the original poster, @desijatt is. I just got pinged to this thread by the quote which got glitched and was misattributed to me. My PC is working fine, thankfully!

I do the same thing sometimes. I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to computer hardware, but if I know something I think might help, I might chime in.
