[SOLVED] Why is my laptop's touchpad pointer opening things by itself ?

I asked this question many months ago but the solution given did not work.

I have to be very careful where i position the mouse pointer on my lenovo laptop screen regardless of what i am doing.

If the pointer is over ANYTHING that can be opened by tapping the touchpad, that item opens by itself !
This can be anything on the laptop including items in games that would normally be opened by clicking the touchpad , it is very fustrating.

I was once told to search for a box that said something like .... "open when mouse pointer hovers", but it was already unticked ???
Anyway, I ticked it , clicked apply and ok, then repeated this to untick it again. But the pointer still opens things by itself.

did you try a clean boot? Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.
