Question Why is my PC struggling to multitask (FPS drops when having other programs open, long load times) ?

Hi,

Just wondering if this would be the cause of an old or faulty cpu? I've upgraded my RAM to 32gb so it's not that as far as it looks like.

Problems occur on games like Valorant/Overwatch, never used to happen but a couple months ago it's been getting worse.

Would really appreciate any help I can get.

My specs are

Nvidia RTX 2070S (Super)

Intel Core i5-9600KF

Thanks

some cpu's are simply not strong enough to multitask. For example, my 10600k could encode with Handbrake + encode with Xvid4psp + game all at the same time without problem. While my 2600k pc could encode fine with Handbrake, but if I try to play a game, the encoding slows down to a crawl... the cpu simply cannot do the multitasking that the 10600k can do. I think that should be expected, since the 2600k is a weaker cpu - it's still fine anyway, as long as I don't try to multitask.

however, if your cpu was able to multitask before, but suddenly cannot and it's getting worse... then there is probably some sort of problem in your pc. Did you install any new programs recently?

What else is running during gaming ?
Just some background programs like Windows Security, Steelseries GG, Logitech G Hub and Spotify and sometimes discord but from what I can see, they barely take up any resources.

Yeah that's what i'm thinking, My current CPU was never amazing but it got the job done. I haven't installed any programs that I believe has caused any issues, it's been ongoing for months, if not years now lol.

Would you recommend resetting the PC and seeing if that helps?
