Why is the hard drive disk/cd silver/shiny?

unlike a compact cd/dvd hy isn't it gold?, why is it silver?

Optical discs are made of 2 layers of (clear) plastic with at least one layer of metal in between. That metal can be any color, so long at parts of it reflect and parts of it do not reflect.

It can be silver, gold, purple, or even (in the case of some old PlayStation discs) black.
