I just built my first system, and everything functions well, but the speed(graphically) is really not even close to what it should be. Here are the specs: GA-8SR533 mb, P4 2.4 w/ 533 fsb, WD400BB hd, 512MB of DDR333, sblive, and Radeon 9700pro, running xp professional. The 3dmark2001 i got was 6818 w/ 4xAA, 32bit color and texture and 12x10 resolution. I had to have done something wrong, but everything else works fine. PLEASE HELP ME

The reason you're getting such low 3D Marks is because you're running an ATi DUH
You know you wanna throw it out and buy a real video card, like the Geforce4.

I could say it's the problem with the Intel processor as well as it could be the Radeon, I have no idea...
Maybe you got something defective, if you can change the card to your friend's GeForce4 or eve GeForce3 (for testing), do it, and post the results so we could see what's wrong...

Oh great, here we go again...

Idiot, get back into real life. The 9700Pro beats any possible GF4 anyhow.

Running a test with one config?

How about running that test about 5 more times with different settings?

Like turn off 4xaa. And then at 16 bit color. And another at 800x600.

So you can tell if it's your bios holding back your gpu, some driver settings, or possibly the os that needz to get tweaked.

I agree with ejsmith2 - you have a lot of information being processed at those settings. Turn down the AA and resolution and the score should jump. And check the drivers, too, like everyone else said. The card is likely fine...

Thanks everyone, it turns out I'm stupid and just forgot to turn off aa in the settings, and not just in 3dmark. i've got the latest driver and it's up to 13150. Are there any other tweaks besides what I did to speed things up(like the os and driver stuff that was mentioned). Thanks for the help

Aren´t we all waiting for it?
Even though I´ve decided to buy the Radeon 9700Pro (need the upgrade now, not next year) it´s allways exciding to see new technology. But according to certain people the NV30/GF5 won´t be such a big step as the R300 was.

Did you switch of AA (is that antialiasing?) in the settings for 3DMark2001? In my 3dmark settings antialiasing is set to :none, I run in 1024x768x32bpp and I only get 6700 in score with a P4 2.53GHz, 32Bit PC1066 memory and a Radeon 9700Pro?? Please help.

yeah, i turned it off in 3dmark, but I had forgotten to turn antialiasing(aa) off in my windows display settings. If you do that I'm sure it'll rocket up.
Another question, Is anybody else having general protection faults in the UT2k3 demo, because mine doesn't have them all the time, but enough to be very annoying. Something about the memory flushing, i dunno. any help would be great

Hmm I thought the R9700 rocked at AA, so why the heck is it suddenly giving such sucky results like 6000 points under high-end systems with 4X AA?
Makes no sense to me.

I am guessing it could be an IRQ conflict or old driver installations.

I would say that 4xAA is still quite stressful for the card (how fast does a ti4600 go @ 4xAA ??? then you can say if the 9700pro is slow or not...)

no-one shouts louder than someone who is being ignored, or in the case of techies, to be heard over the noise of their PC's ;-)
