Why "unknown CPU type"?

I see other questions about this, but not clear on what problem could be. My AMD utility, SiSoft Sandra and WindowsXP Device Manager all report "unknown cpu type" since installing an AMD AthlonXP 2200+ on my Gigabyte GA-7DX mainboard. YES, I updated the bios prior to install which was supposed to aid in recognition of the 2200+. The AMD utility CPUID reports the correct speed, etc. but still the unknown cpu type. Fix? Need more info from me?

Does it bother you that much?

AMD MB/CPUs are well known for there difficult relation when it comes to identify the CPU model. So, I have stopped bothering about this issue when I built or O/C system for me or my friend.

The important point : make sure you FSB and multiplier is set to whatever you want!

I know, it's not the answer you expected, but, there is way too much post about this issue in this forum! :)

Have a look here:

There is no "okay" behind the 2200+, which means its probably not tested and/or foreseen in the Bios. Better be happy it works at all :)

That CPU support chart is very outdated. The latest bios specifically states it supports upto XP 2600+. Anyway, I've a 2200+ on a GA-7DX and it works flawlessly.
