Why Western Digital?

In my experience, many different people recommend different brands based on their experiences. For example some people say Powercolor is good for graphics cards, others say it isn't. Generally, people agree on what are considered quality brands that are good. However, with regards to hard drives, everyone I have ever met has recommended Western Digital, even so far as to say stay away from other brands. It seems to be completely unanimous.

Why does Western Digital seem to be the preferred brand so unanimously?

Quality, price/performance ratio, warranty, customer service, innovative products (Raptors and Velociraptors).

I don't mean that every single one of those facets is better than all other brands but no other brand combines all of it to high levels across the board.
