Why Windows 8 Has New Start Screen and Metro Apps

Microsoft screwed up the launch of this OS badly and could have done so much to help themselves.

They claim this was for the computer illiterate but did they provide any documentation to help them learn about the new OS? NO. Even power users have to scratch their heads once in awhile to find things like how to boot into safe mode. It's a chore to use safe mode now, its an option buried in various subfolders. If a power user would find something so crucial hard to find what hope would Grandma have?
