I have searched to high heaven and so far have not fixed it.

My USB 3.0 ports on the back of my M5A97 R2.0 motherboard are not working.
They only supply a charge and do not connect. When I look in device manager I do not see anything that says USB 3.0, so they are not listed there either!

I use my Toshiba 500GB HDD out of my 3.0 port. When it connects to 2.0 it lights up white and when it connects to 3.0 it turns blue.
Currently it is read as drive E:

I had it plugged in when i connected another internal HDD. When I restarted the computer (Toshiba still plugged in) I noticed an error since the internal HDD was now reading as drive E: and the light on the Toshiba HDD was now white.

I navigated the menus and changed the drive letter of the internal to something else (J: currently) and restarted the computer figuring that the Toshiba would see that there is no longer a competing drive E: and connect.

NOPE nothing

When plugged into the 3.0 port it turns on white but only charge mode (connected my phone to check for charge) When i move to a 2.0 port it connects just fine though.

Now here is what I have done so far.

Factory reset BIOS
Updated BIOS
uninstalled and re installed 3.0 drivers.
unplugged internal harddrive and restarted
plugged the Toshiba into my brothers comp to verify it wasnt the drive that was broken (3.0 connects and reads on his computer just fine)

nothing. same problem. Does not show the 3.0 ports in device manager either.

Here is what did happen though. I re installed the 3.0 driver and rebooted the computer. I then connected the Toshiba and, alas, blue!! It turned blue! BUT ONE THING... It still wasnt reading the device. (when that happens the blue light starts to blink). AND when i disconnected the drive and tried again it went right back to the white light.

Did I fry my 3.0 ports? I am at a loss on what to do next before RMA this NEW motherboard (Just built this comp last week).

Sorry for the long post but wanted to give you guys all the information on this.
Thank you guys!

Thank you so much for that link! I dont know what was different about it then the drivers i got from the Asus website but that did the trick!

I downloaded both the latest drivers AND latest firmware and then rebooted. Plugged in drive, Toshiba turned blue and I got a ding from the computer that it connected. You're the best, Thank you so much

I had exactly the same symptoms with my M5A97 EVO R2.0 Motherboard, but installing new drivers wasn't helpful. Instead, clearing the CMOS solved my problem.
