Question wifi......it’s a mystery to me and, apparently, to my desktop PCs......

Hello everyone

Before I call+pay a technician, I suppose I’ll shamelessly ask you guys, please.

All of a sudden, by surprise, I must (by a certain deadline) acquaint myself with (one aspect??) of networking.

I Googled online, but, while I can sort of navigate desktop computers software, Unfortunately I know absolutely NOTHING about network, connections, etc.
I develop allergies when it comes to all things networking.

I’ve got a mobile router D-Link DWR-933.

I always use what I was told is wireless (NOT wifi) connection. I’ve never used wifi. I don't even know what these "things" are.

I also use such mobile router at home.

On my two desktop computers (one Win10 & one Win11) now I urgently need to be able to, in addition to wireless, use/have wifi as well.

One example:: some updates, set-ups, installations, etc, are possible only with wifi. But this is only an example.

How do I get my mobile router to do/have WiFi?? Is it even possible??

I read its usermanual, but I’m not sure it makes sense to me.

My biggest fear is inadvertently losing/disabling (forever) the wireless option and/or messing up the two computers, the mobile router, etc etc.

In advance thank you all, very much, for your kind attention

kind regards
Christian

Those D-Link routers use WIFI as the link between them and your devices.
From the description -- https://www.dlink.com/en/products/dwr-933-4g-lte-mobile-router "Compatible with 802.11ac/n/g/b devices" That 802.11 statement is the technical description for WIFI.

So, we need more/better explanation on what you are trying to accomplish ...

One Wireless part is 4G LTE mobile (cell) internet connection to provider.
To connect to devices it uses WiFi,

Also:

On both computers run "ipconfig /all" without quotes via the Command Prompt and post the results here.

You should be able to use copy and paste with no need to retype everything.

The results will provide some basic network information regarding network connectivity.

And with two desktops to compare it is all the more likely that anything amiss may be spotted.

For example that D-Link DWR-933 uses 192.168.0.1 as its' default IP. (User manual, physically numbered Page 12.)

If so, network devices needing to communicate with the router need to use that IP address.

Or if you changed the router's default IP address( via the applicable admin rights) then your network devices must use the IP address that you configured within the router.

This Router user manual?

I’ve never changed anything on this router. I wouldn’t dare.

I connect (by means of an USB cable) my mobile router to the computer I need to work with, and it only works on such desktop computer.

I've just purchased a Win11 desktop PC. It forces (even before I reach the actual operating system, which I haven't yet reached) me to connect to the internet, because it wants me to create a Microsoft account. It doesn’t make any connection, no matter what I do, because (I was told) I don’t have wifi.

Wifi and wireless must be two completely different things. As an (utterly Unrelated to my router) example, when I receive system-updates for my Android smartphone, I must go to a public area where there’s free available wifi. I cannot update such smartphone with its wireless connection, that is, the one I always use. So, wifi and wireless must be two different things.

I’m sorry to have wasted your time. I’m hopeless. I’ll pay a technician.

Many thanks
kind regards

That is one way to connect. The router should provide a WIFI source also. If you have an android phone, I would suggest you get WIFI analyzer -- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en&gl=US and it will show you what WIFI is being broadcast. Maybe the router doesn't broadcast WIFI if a device is connected via USB....
