[SOLVED] Will 3200 Mhz RAM works with i5 10400 and H510M

From what i found on the web, it seems i5 10400 only support up to 2666 Mhz, atleast officially on ark. But i've heard that people were using the i5 10400 with 3200 Mhz RAM using Z490 board. Now that H510 released, it seems H510M support up to 3200 Mhz RAM such as H510M-HDV from Asrock which the website state that H510M-HDV support up to 3200 Mhz RAM. Question is, will it work if i pair it up with i5 10400? Also will i see a benefit by doing so? Thanks

No there's no benefit on 10400, memory controller is part of cpu, so doesn't really mater what motherboard it is. The only way would have been to raise uncore frequency, which is basically overclocking ringbus. There's very little if any benefit in doing it on gen10, and comes with severe penalty in terms of overal stability of system.

technically DDR4-2666 is not running at 2666mhz, it really runs at 1333mhz (i/o bus) with memory itself at 333mhz, it just accesses data on raising as well as falling edge of the clock cycle, hence double data rate but adressing and control still happens only on raising edge of clock cycle.

it's pretty much a marketing misnomer using "effective speed" term quite liberally

you can use DDR4-3200 sticks but you'll end up running them in DDR4-2666 mode anyways.
overclocking ringbus to make it run in DDR4-3200 will not make it faster, just less stable.

i5 10400 cant take advantage of faster memory. People who do it mostly waste money.

With 500 series motherboards it only makes a little sense if you plan to upgrade it to rocket lake CPU within next 18 months,
by which time rocket lake lineup will be discontinued and replaced by LGA1700 platform.
