[SOLVED] Will a 7th Gen I7 CPU work in 8th gen motherboard?

I have a new Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro motherboard and an I7 7700K CPU I was going to build a second system. They're both Socket 1151, but when I try to power it up, the power comes on for 1 or 2 seconds then turns off

The motherboard manual says it supports 8th gen, but the cpu is 7th gen, are is it not backwards compatible?

Your motherboard's CPU Support List, from the manufacturer's official page, don't include 7th Gen CPUs.

6th & 7th gen will work on 100 & 200 series chipsets. 8th & 9th gen will work on 300 series. It doesn’t matter that they are the same socket.
