Recently I heard that the GTX 970 actually has 3.5GB of VRAM instead of 4GB (I trusted you Nvidia). Anyways, since higher quality textures require more VRAM would I have enough VRAM for Ultra settings with the RealVision ENB in 1080p?

Note: If I don't have enough horsepower, that's okay. Please tell me but I kind of expected that. What I'm worried about is not having enough VRAM because if I don't have enough, when I upgrade I can't just go SLI and would have to buy a new video card.

Though i'm not sure myself, but there are posts and articles claiming that skyrim has a VRAM limit of 3.1GB or something like that.
As far as RealVision goes, I'm sure it'll run smoothly on ultra. MMOxRreview on YouTube uses a GTX 970 to run skyrim with many graphical mods on K-ENB pure light (which is more demanding than RealVision) and seems to get about 30-40FPS outdoors. He also uses RealVision, when not using K-ENB. You can try and PM him to know his exact FPS numbers and settings (I hope MxR won't mind me saying this). I plan on getting a 970 myself to run skyrim with K-ENB.
GTX 970 does have 4GB in form of 3.5GB+0.5GB. It's just that when you use the last 0.5GB, you'll have performance issues. There are videos explaining this in...

How far you will get also depends on your resolution. 3.5Gb and 4.0Gb with the difference isn't much. 2-3GB is already plenty for modern games at 1080p. Not sure about heavy mods with Skyrim, GTX 970 is an extremely power sweetspot card, and you could SLI them for $100 more than a GTX 980 and it will majorly overpower the GTX 980. The GTX 970 is only about 10% less performance than the GTX 970.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention this, I'm running at 1080p.

There are Problem with GTX 970 SLI btw on other thread. Also, i think you will do good at Ultra Setting with RealVision ENB, anyway What FPS do you get without the realvision?

There are people out there playing with single GTX 970 with those setting, are averaging 45fps..

Solution
well I run skyrim on ultra with a gtx 560 ti 1 gig vram and an fx-6300 cpu on ultra settings 1680x1050 constant 60 frames... so yes a 970 should be able to run skyrim very easily maxed out.. I don't know what real vision is but if I can run it maxed out 60 frames you should be able to with that realvision thing imo...

RealVision is a modified ENB preset. ENBs are graphical modifications for games to make them look even better (lighting, weather, texture etc) but at the cost of performance. I had the exact cpu+gpu config as you up until recently (my mobo and gpu broke so now waiting for upgrades). I had 35-40 avg FPS @1080p outdoors with 150+ mods installed (graphical and non-graphical) and no ENB installed. But when I tried the ENB named "project ENB", my frames dropped to 15-20 FPS max., and skyrim doesn't perform well if it's lagging while having lots of mods with scripts installed. I was even using the performance preset. Also, as far as I know, RealVision is even more demanding than Project ENB. But gtx 970 should be able to handle it with ease at about 40-45fps avg. at least. You can head over to the nexusmods website to check out the awesome mods for skyrim and many other games if haven't already and want to.

I have an Asus gtx 970, 4790k and 64 mods icluding Realvision and Climates of Tamriel. The games looks amazing on ultra and runs very smooth. My frames drop to around 30fps when I enter areas with extreme detail (Top of Dragonsreach looking down at a modded Whiterun, for example), but it only drops briefly, maybe 5 seconds, then it seems to catch up.

Overall, the game looks awesome and plays better than the Xbox 360 version ever could.
