650 <650 ti < 650 ti boost < 660.

I have the EVGA 660 super clocked 2GB and it'll run Crysis 3 on max. Luckily I got it for 159.98 back in January, but the new 750/750 ti line is a solid card in terms of price per watt performance and size. $109-$154.99 and it'll perform about like a 650/650 ti.

Purchase it man its a good graphic card I also have this graphic card and 450watts of PSU with i5 processor and 16gigs of ram, .. but be sure you have perfect cooling system or else it result in lagging and crashes and defrag your hard drive after you have assassins creed 4 installed. So just go on with this graphic card and make sure about cooling system.

GTX 650 is good man.
I have GT 650M (mobile version) and it runs AC4 in Max Settings.
other games the same chipset allows to run in max settings
fifa 14
grid 2
pes 14
outlast
DmC 5
darksiders ii
dead space 3
moto gp 13
nba 2k14
nfs mostwanted 2012
resident evil 6
sniper ghost warrior 2
spec ops the line
gta iv
ac3
dead pool

some games that it doesn't
tomb raider (have checked it after some driver update)
hitman absolution
max payne 3
la noire
remember me
crysis 3

if you have a gt 650 that is enough.
if you are planning to buy one then I wont recommend it. go for a 760

No it's not, "man". It's a low-end card that is only barely fit for gaming.

Here's an informative quote:
A single GTX 680 was unable to run the game with max settings at more than 40fps.
If a single GTX 680 can't go above 40 FPS, a GTX 650 is going to be unplayable. For reference, the GTX 680 has 1536 shaders. The GTX 650 has 384.

The GT 650M is an underclocked (=slower) version of the desktop GTX 650 (often also crippled by slow DDR3 memory). There's no damn way it would run AC4 maxed out, even at the lower resolutions commonly used on laptops. Notebookcheck has the related GT 750M running at 10.8 FPS at 1080p (with a high-end Core i7-4702MQ CPU). The 750M is a 650M with higher clocks.

I know all the things you have said, but you know I have played it, that is why I have posted like that.

^768p i imagine:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Assassin-s-Creed-IV-Black-Flag-Benchmarked.106214.0.html

note the 750M should be slightly faster than a 650M, if the the comparison with the 745M is any indication:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-650M.71887.0.html

from the ACIV mobile benchmark above, we're seeing the 750M averaging at ~10fps at the highest setting at 1080p, performing only slightly under a GTX650 here: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_750_OC/7.html

also, a GT 650M is not equivalent to a GTX 650. if a 750M is basically an underclocked GTX650, then the 650M should be an underclocked GTX550.

as for Germanswag, to re-iterate everyone's answers: no, you are not able to max out ACIV with a GTX650, not unless you're looking to play at an unplayable frame rate, or at a much smaller res than 1080p. medium at 1600x900 sounds plausible.

I actually own a gtx650. (used as a placeholder while 660ti was off for RMA). Even Skyrim, a game that is 2.5 years old can only be played at 60fps at LOW at 1080p. the gtx650 is NOT a good gaming card and for 1080p gaming at 30+fps, you will be looking at low settings in most new games.

Yeah, you are playing at a resolution 31% lower than 1080p. This will have a drastic improvement in game performance.

A gtx 650 desktop card at 1080, is cutting it close for 60fps in some modern games at lowest settings at 1080p.

Also, when you say "run in max settings" does that mean 60fps locked?

55-60

The GT 750M gets 23 FPS at 768p with less than max settings. So to get maxed settings with a GT 650M, you'd have to go below 1024x768 - but the game does not support that.

The GT 650M uses the same GPU as the GT 750M and the desktop GTX 650 - GK107. It's just different clocks. The GT 650M has the lowest clocks, the GT 750M has higher clocks, and the GTX 650 has the highest clocks of all of them. So the GT 650M is an underclocked GTX 650; depending on the laptop it may also be crippled by slow DDR3 memory.

What in game resolution are you playing at? Also assuming no AA or tessellation, or anything like bloom. The games you claim to max aren't the most demanding so this MAY be possible, but I agree with the ones you listed that you cannot max. No way would a 650 max those at any resolution.
