I have a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 15IMH05 and i need to know if i can fit a 2280 into a 2242 port. Mi laptop has 3 memory slots, 1 for the hdd, 1 for a 2280 and 1 for a 2242, sadly i can't use the 2280 port and the hdd port at the same time because there is no space in the layout. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Solution
No.
2242 and 2280 are the physical dimensions, in mm.

22mm wide x 42mm long
22mm wide x 80mm long.

There is not enough physical space.

Forgot to said that there is space in that port, there are two screw holes, one closer to the port than the other, so i think tthe furthest is for a 2280.
Then what told you it was 2242?

Also, you need to absolutely verify what this M.2 port can take.
M.2 is just the physical port format. Not all of them can take a NVMe drive. Not all of them can take a storage device at all. Rather, a WiFi device.

I look up this review https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenov...case-a-plastic-chassis-for-the-ideapad-gaming , there it specifies, in the storage section, that both ports are M.2, you can see also the layout in that review and check both screw holes in the 2242 port.

From your link:

Up to two drives, 1x 2.5" HDD + 1x M.2 2242 SSD or 1x 2.5" HDD + 1x M.2 2280 SSD • 2.5" HDD up to 1TB • M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB • M.2 2242 SSD up to 512GB

So yes, you can use a 2280 + 2.5" HDD at the same time.
What makes you think not?

When i saw the review, it said that the 2280 port is near the hdd, so i can't use the 2280 and the hdd at the same time because there is no space. But, in the supposed 2242 port, there are two screw holes, so i was wondering if i can use the 2280 in that port, because i want the hdd to be working too.

They are both "near" the HDD.

Circled in red is the 2242, blue is the 2280

Ok so the in the red circle you are pointing the supposed 2280 port, and to used it the hdd has to be removed because there is no space, but in the other port there is more space and you can se the two screw holes, i think one is for a 2242 and the other for a 2280

Further text from your link:

"The laptop still has room for a 2.5-inch storage device and a second NVMe SSD. Since our test device doesn't include the SATA slot necessary for the use of a 2.5-inch drive, the only option left is to install a second NVMe SSD. SSDs in the M.2 2230 and M.2 2280 formats can be used. The use of the latter requires the 2.5-inch drive frame to be removed and the retaining screw to be relocated afterwards (see pictures). "

The small space circled in Red is not even 2242, but rather 2230. (I thought it looked a bit short for 42)

You can have 2x storage devices.
1x HDD + 1 2280
1x HDD + 1x 2230
1x 2280 + 1x 2280, IF and only IF you remove the HDD drive bay.

The installed a 2280 in the nearest port to the hdd, the review says that.
