will a windows 7/8 motherboards support windows 10?

Absolutely, definitely not guaranteed. Though I would suspect that it will depend on the age of your motherboard. In my own case, I did a clean install of Windows 10 and had no problems. Over the next few days occasional things didn't work as expected, and I put it down to teething problems. My webcam wasn't detected. I bought a new Microsoft one, and that didn't work either. A search of the internet revealed lots of people with the same problem. Annoyed that a current Microsoft webcam didn't work with Microsoft's current operating system, I returned the camera.
Then I found that my disk mirroring was no longer working, and couldn't be re-established. A search for any current motherboard/BIOS drivers on the manufacturers website revealed that my motherboard wasn't compatible, and wasn't supported, with Windows 10. So I'm left with a board that appears to work most of the time, but if anything doesn't work, I have no way of knowing whether it's the board, or the software. And as the only way to fix it is to buy a new board, I suspect that my free Windows 10 installation will refuse to be free any more as it'll effectively be being installed on a different machine.
Not terribly happy.
Check your motherboards compatibility online before taking the plunge. (Incidentally I really like Windows 10, just wish it had warned me that it was installing on a motherboard that was known to not 100% compatible)
