hi i previously made a post asking if my fx 6300 would support 1 gtx 770 without bottlenecking and it does not bottleneck 1 bit now however i want some more power and plan on running 2 way or maybe even 3 way SLI with gtx 770s. i dont know much about overclocking CPUs so i dont plan on doing that yet till i at least get some better cooling.

What is it benchmarking lower than in the 8350 in? If you're looking at the Passmark score or rendering benchmarks, then yes it will benchmark lower. Keep in mind that such benchmarks are geared to take maximum advantage of the multi-core architecture of the 8350. They are not representative of current gaming perforamance, in which I assure you the i5 trounces any FX. For example, compare the Passmark single-threaded performance of the FX to the i5 to get a better idea of which is best for gaming.

Better yet, look at this benchmark for Far-Cry, which is a game that's no longer GPU bound and has a good mix of single-threaded and multi-threaded mixed code. Look at how far out in front the Intel chips are.

Find gaming benchmarks if you will be gaming. Look at Tom's gaming hierarchy for 2014 and you'll see that the IB and Haswell i5's are a notch above the best AMD chip available. I'm telling you, I've done the research and seen the difference first hand. The i5 is the superior gaming chip, especially if you want to maximize the potential of two higher end cards like the 770's you're discussing.

Also, the price premium of the i7 over the i5 isn't justified given that most games make minimal if any use of the Hyper-threading. We're talking less than 5% difference at the same clock speed in the majority of cases.
