In pretty much all CPU intensive games I get 100% CPU usage and around 40 - 50% GPU usage. Would an i5 8600k be a good upgrade?

I have dual channel 8gb ram sticks, they're not branded as I stupidly bought my pc pre-built a few years back but they're 2600 mhz

Thats not that bad, even thought they are brandless, RAM is RAM, buying cheaper memory just means you bought cheaper memory.

But all-in-all Its a CPU bottleneck.

I would recommend getting an i7-7700k because you can overclock them if you want more performance later on.

I don't have the money for the i7 7700k, I would've bought it though. But would there be any bottleneck at all with the i5 8600k? Possibly overclocked but idk if the stock Intel cooler can take that

z370 would most likely need a bios update to run 9th gen. Email ASRock the serial number to be sure, depending how new the motherboard is it could be older stock without the update.

8600k is an upgrade but you'll also find this cpu too runs high cpu usages including 9600k. I suggest searching people's experiences with this cpu in the game's you play.

I would go an 8700/8700k or if z370 can run 9th gen out of the box then perhaps look at 9700k assuming 9900k is out of the question.

Two issues with cpus nowadays. Big games/multiplayer utilising a lot of cpu and adding to that are frame rates as well since cpus need to pre-render frames before it gets to the gpu. It all adds up and in particular games like BF1 & 5 8600k/9600k struggle at higher refresh rates.

Well i'm just at 60hz and from looking at reviews the 8600k seems to be a popular pick. And i'm pretty sure the 9th gen requires a BIOS update the 8th series doesn't
