Question Will getting a USB Wifi Reciever improve my connection at all?

At my new apartment, there is no way to make a hardline connection via ethernet, so i must use the Wifi receiver that is built into my desktop (I believe it is part of the MOBO) in order to get Wifi connection; However, I find that the connection is extremely poor, and cuts in/out randomly. My surface Pro laptop has absolutely zero issues keeping a good connection, even though it is usually only 1-2 feet away from my desktop. My cell phone similarly always gets good wifi connection.

I've found this device and similar ones on amazon; https://www.amazon.com/USB-WiFi-Com...ds=wifi+receiver+for+pc&qid=1631292351&sr=8-4

I am wondering if using one would give me a better/more consistent Wifi connection on my desktop. I also do not know if my desktop would be able to use this to process the Wifi signal, or if it would always default to using the built-in wifi receiver.

If needed, I can provide more information about my desktop/wifi receiver/ISP if it would help at all. My current situation makes schoolwork almost impossible (save for having my surface pro).

You may not need any additional devices.

Could be a configuration error of omission or commission on the desktop.

Perhaps the wireless network adapter's drivers need an update.....

On your desktop ensure that only one network adapter is enabled. In your case where an Ethernet cable is not available then you will disable any wired network adapters and ensure that only one wireless network adapter is enabled.

Run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt on the desktop.

Post the results.

Was that the full "ipconfig /all" results?

Does your router show that the desktop is connected?

Try "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew".

Reference:

https://www.lifewire.com/ip-config-818377

Failing that:

Use "WIN" + "I" > Network & Internet to check your network and adapter settings.

Explore the settings and options but do not immediately change anything.

Make note of the current settings any that you recognize as not being correct or otherwise as expected.

Run the troubleshooters.

Hi, Sorry for the delay. During the previous pic, I was unable to connect to wifi at all for over 24 hours, even though I had zero issues on other devices. After restarting the router, I was able to connect; however, the generally poor connection quality and random loss of connections persist. I've ran the ipconfig items, with no change to performance. The new ipconfig readout for the Wifi connection is below:

The windows settings for Network & Internet show nothing out of order. Any troubleshooters attempted have failed to make the problem any better.

Is it certain that your ISP provides IPv6 support? Either way try disabling IPv6 to determine if doing so makes a difference.

Make and model modem? Make and model router or modem/router if combined?

What wireless frequency and channel is being used?

Post full results of "ipconfig /all".
