Will HDMI Output let me transfer home movies by using the port?

I was wondering if this item

Would allow me to hook up my camcorder using the HDMI and transfering my home movies on it straight to dvd?

It seems like such a hassle to transfer HD Videos through a computer. I haven't been able to see my home movies since June 2012 - March 2015 using my Canon Vixia HV40. I just thought it would be nice to have a short cut away from the computer lol. Is this a good choice for a machine? I don't see one of these affordable for Blu-Ray so I guess I will be happy with DVD for now.

I really don't edit what I film. It would be to time consuming lol. I love to film for hours when I go out with friends and with family. It's just a hobby to bypass time. The only thing I will have to do is type up each credits that I would like to add to the film along with the time and date of each event.

Hello I am confused do I need HDMI Input or HDMI Output to be able to transfer my home movies to the device onto dvd? This device only has HDMI output.
