Will I get BBottleneck issues with a core 13 - 3220 and a GTX 660?

I'm hoping to buy a new gaming rig, specs:

Intel Core i3 3220 3.3Ghz (3rd Generation)
Axle Geforce GTX 660 2GB DDR5
Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H
Axle Twister 500W 75% efficient
Corsair 4GB XMS3 1600 Mhz CL9 DDR3 stick
WD Caviar Green 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6GBPS

Will I get any bottleneck issues with my CPU + GPU? I need to run all the up coming games without any lag (Not much of a Multi player fan)

Have I selected a good combination? or should I go with a Intel Core i5 3470 3.1Ghz (3rd Generation) and a GTX 660 (Its kinda out of my budget )?

The i5 is better if you can swing it. If not, the i3 is capable but it will strain with upcoming games which are increasingly well threaded for quad cores - both Frostbite 2 and CryEngine 3 along with RAGE make good use of quads and they power a few games.

More importantly, get a better PSU that won't blow and take out your parts - something like Corsair's CX600 on a budget.

An i3 3220 would not bottleneck even a GTX 670. And since you don't play multiplayer than much, where most of the CPU bottlenecks occur, you're good.

For now, 2 cores are good. I don't know about Crysis 3 though. Hehe

Will I still be able to max out games?

What resolution do you play at? If you play at 1080p, then no.

At least a GTX 660 or an HD 7850 for a consistent excellent performance at max settings at 1080p because of their 2GB memory.

If it's a compromise between i5 or 660 definitely more GPU muscle. I would swap out your PSU for something a bit better such a corsair or seasonic at the same wattage.

Definitely the better combo. That will have enough watts for your system and is pretty good. Maybe stretch to the 500w version for upgradability but that's a good choice.

you guys have not heard of the brand Axle huh? Its pretty much famous in the country I live, and most of the shops sells its and a bit cheaper than the corsair PSU's.

Never heard of it myself. You will max a fair few. Not crysis 2 or metro but it's a good rig that will last you several years.

Most GPUs will have those same outputs, DVI and HDMI. If your monitor is limited to VGA input, you will need a DVI to VGA adapter. These are often included in the box with your GPU.

High but not maxed. Easily playable on medium I should think.

I would defo go for i5 3470. Massive difference overall performance wise gaming and video encoding. i3 3220 will be on its limit with a gtx660.

The gaming difference is small in most games. There are some exception admittedly.

If he got th I5 he would have to drop in graphics power massively which would have more of an FPS effect then a Proc switch up.

darth pravus, imo I would save up for the i5 any day of the week as it would mean that it will have more performance for the future.

Massive gains to be had with i5 quad on minimum fps and and average and max fps.

I would save up but if he gets an i5 he will only get a 7770 which is very poor.

boyabunda Interesting that video was. Shame he didn't say what clock speed it was running other then the cpu he was testing with I believe was a 6 core one with disable cores. Either way I think i3 + ht makes it just enough for gaming. I would still prefer i5 quad gforr extra oomph, and video encoding and recording gameplay will need really something like an i5 quad to do it smoother as well as fast hdd/ssd.

Hyper-threading is probably unnoticeable and sometimes have a more negative effect than a positive effect in games.

Okay, you prefer a quad core CPU. You probably have the budget for it. Meanwhile, OP here stated that his budget is the limiting factor on his build.
So, an i3 is not a bad CPU choice for him. The video is for budget-conscious folks like the OP.

Here the clock speed is stated, still no significant/noticeable difference between two and four cores.

That would only be beneficial for you. A more future proof rig. Yeah maybe 4 years max.

I advice wait til January 2013 (~3 months) because the HD 8850 & 8870 is rumored to be launced that time. It would bring the GTX 660 price down.

So I'll see if I can go with an i5 in December or I'll go with a core i3 it wouldn't be that bad right?
