Will I need to overclock to run Far Cry 5?

I am currently using a AMD Ryzen 3 1200 3.1GHz on a Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3 board, 16GB DIMM DDR4 RAM, and Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB

Will I need to overclock to run Far Cry 5, and if so on what resolution/settings? My concern is if all 4 cpu cores hit 100% usage, it'll overheat to the point the PC will just go black screen.

Solution
You will not be able to overclock that CPU much as no first generation Ryzen goes past 4GHz in overclock. You will benefit more from overclocking the video card. At 1080p that Ryzen 3 is going to be your limitation in gains of FPS vs. the GPU.

Tom's own review of the new second generation of Ryzen shows how poor the first-generation Ryzen 7's dealt with Far Cry Primal (at 1008p) with a GTX 1080. Far Cry 5 is even more hard on CPU scaling:

Cpu should be able to run 100% for hours without overheating. Anything less than that is a hardware malfunction. A cooling setup is proper only when the aforementioned condition is met.
To your question, overclocking may help but i guess your cpu is already competitive enough to run the game just fine at 60 fps and 1920x1080. You should tweak some settings till you meet the targeted fps but i can say that with a gtx 1060 it can do a mix of medium/high settings. All you have to do is test it

IF you have an issue with it overheating then you should get a better CPU cooler :) but you should be fine. I have done stress testing many times and running a CPU at 100% for days and days and it should not cause any issues UNLESS maybe you have a bad cooler. just see what your temps are when you are running the game.

No, You don't need to overclock at all, since Far Cry 5 isn't that hefty game that requires any overload, from either CPU nor GPU.

On my system Intel core i7 4790K overclocked to 4.6GHz
And a Graphics card Asus Radeon RX480 8GB OC
I have run the Far Cry 5 inbuilt graphics test tool with its fps counter and never had blow 65 fps.
On my second monitor I have a measurement tool and it will tell me that Far cry 5 @ Ultra settings the CPU usage is about 35-50%
Yes, at Ultra settings and 1920x1080

You will be fine with your processor, just get the in-game graphics settings a bit down (less stress on he CPU), depending of the graphics card. No problem, just make sure that You have a good cooler for the CPU.

Firstly you can easily run this gaem as others have explained. But also, overclocking will make your cpu hotter not cooler. The only way to overclock without overheating would be better cooling
