Looking to upgrade my current Z87 chipset currently consisting of an i7-4790k, looking to upgrade to a 5600x or a 5800x, however I've been told that my current Seasonic S12ii 620w is severely outdated and needs changing, because the Seasonic has outdated components, I am on a strict budget and don't know if i'll run into any problems.

The build to be is:
Asus B550 A gaming
5600x or 5800x
32gb ddr4
Rtx 3070

Thank you

Solution
Yes, it needs to be replaced. That's an old, group-regulated PSU, suitable for a budget build only.

Go to an RTX 3060 if it's necessary, to get a proper PSU. If you have the money for a Ferrari but the not the insurance and maintenance, you don't have the money for the Ferrari.

Appreciate it thank you, was looking at an RM850 for £90, I don't believe they're as strong as RMx but this will do the job, right?

That's a very good deal. Well done! Now you pretty much don't have to worry about your PSU for at least a decade. Even if it fails, it has robust protections for your equipment and a warranty to match.

Hi, sorry to bother you again, my power supply turned up today and I was just having a look at it, and I have a question on which end of the cables is supposed to go into the motherboard and which end goes into the PSU? As the included manual doesn't specify this, nor can I find anything online regarding it? Not sure if I should have made a new thread, but any help would be appreciated!

They should be keyed to go only one way. I don't have one to reference, unfortunately. But the PCIE side is always the 6+2 side, the CPU is always on the 4+4 side, and nothing else ought to have the same number of holes as the PSU side (SATA and motherboard cables are obviously quite different on either end).

Okay, and regarding the PCIE & CPU socket on the PSU, can I fit either the PCIE Cable or CPU four pin into either one? Are they interchangeable? I'm pretty sure the PCIE and CPU ends are identical when plugging into the PSU

If something's labeled, you can put it there.

Joined a discord server and they are interchangeable, I was worried I'd accidently plug the PCIE where the CPU cable was going to go because they both fit, again, appreciate your time, I tried to set your top comment in regards to the PSU choice as the solution to this thread, but not sure how to do it. Either way thanks again!
