Hey, I'm new to Tom's and building computers. Today I went to a nearby electronics mall and picked up some sheets showing what they have. I'm helping a friend build a computer, he wants Skyrim and Battlefield 3 to run at high/ultra at a fluent 60FPS or higher at 1900 x 1080p.

I am confused about parts compatibility, especially cases. Will these parts function together? Is the i7-2600k worth it over the i5-2500k?

By the way, we live in Singapore, so prices are in SGD.

For gaming the best CPU is i5 2500k.
To overclock that CPU you need a P67,Z68 mobo.
A good and cheap one is ASUS P8Z68-V LX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131781 120$
If he want to SLI,Crossfire in the future then buy :
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271 122$
This PSU is enough to support your build with a single video card.
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650M 650W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139031 110$
Buy low profile heatsink memory not to interfere with CPU cooler :
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233196
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Thanks for the reply!

I was confused about the i5 vs the i7, thanks for answering, and the motherboards. My friend might want to SLI in the future when games get more demanding. Only problem is that we are in Singapore, so acquiring some of these parts might be harder.
