I bought a gtx 970 a like 3 weeks ago then I bought a i7-5820k and I wanted to know if my gtx 970 would bottleneck my i7-5820k

At the moment I can't upgrade gpu's, so do you think I should get a i7-4790k or a i5-6500k to match with my 970 or is it okay to stick with the i7-5820k and gtx 970

There is no reason to replace that processor with either of those, its a better processor!

So it's okay to stick with the gtx 970 and i7-5820k without having to upgrade to a better gpu?

oh okay thank you for helping me out I was worried for a while.

The i7-5820k is LGA2011-3. If you already have the cpu, and I'm assuming you either have yet to purchase a 2011-3 motherboard, the move backwards to lga1151 (i5-6500) or even further backwards to lga1150 (i7-4790k) won't work. The only compatible parts would be the ddr3 ram for lga1150, the lga1151 uses ddr4. Building the core of the pc around an add-on part like a gpu is backwards. You already have the cpu, finish the core platform, 2011-3 mobo, 16Gb of ddr3 ram.

The 2011-v3 doesn't use ddr3 though.

Basically it's okay to stick with the 970 and 5820k and go ahead and by the motherboard with the socket lga-2011 v3 and get the ddr4 ram meant for it?

Is 12gb ddr4 ram fine or do I need 16gb?

16Gb. You buy it in a single kit, 4x4Gb or 2x8Gb. The 4x4Gb is slightly better performance, but you have to watch how it's installed or you end up with 2x dual instead of a quad. Don't opt for 1x16Gb, that runs single, so you'll loose upto 20% performance over dual. To get 12Gb would mean mixing kits and thats a bad idea from the get-go as there are no triple channel kits in ddr4, that was basically phased out with ddr2, newer ram running 12Gb would be 2x ram in dual and a single stick in single channel, which is quite slower than all dual or quad channel ram.
