I am looking at building a system with an i5 760 processor, a p57p55D-E motherboard, (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131621) and I wanted to know the HIS radeon 6950 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161355) will be compatible with it.

Thanks!

Yes, the HD6950 graphics card is compatible with Intel 'Core-i5' CPUs.
Something for the same price and so much better than the i5-760: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115073&cm_re=i5_2500-_-19-115-073-_-Product (Intel 'Core i5-2500')
This is Intel's 2nd generation of i5 but requires the 1155 (Sandy-Bridge) socket. Only buy this if you're okay to wait until July to be safe (Motherboard recall due to defects).

I have an i5-760 unit and from it's experience and experience with other Intel specific units I feel that nVidia pairs better.
everyone has opinions and of course you can go with an ATi card.
HD6950 is a good card and you will enjoy it, just make sure you can physically fit it into your case.
you probably can but I'm just pointing it out along with a solid power supply..

What do you mean by pairs better? Also, I would definitely appreciate some suggestions on a suitable case <$100. By the way this will be my first build so the simpler the better for me.

Additionally, I am not opposed to waiting for the SB boards to come back, but I heard they were going to be pretty expensive to get full functionality ($220 for 2500k and $180 for board is going to be pretty expensive :( )

nVidia is overall in general the better gfx card, some will argue but tests results show that overall nVidia wins.
that's all I'm saying and from experience I have always had issues with ATi cards and Intel chipsets..
with ATi chipsets and ATi cards, I have not noticed any issues so you might be fine.
anyways.
as for case, I have never owned or like anything bigger than a mid-tower and I really like mATX builds even more.
and to the new SB boards, I'll stay with my i5-760 overclocked for some time to come.

It appears in this benchmark that the i7 worked better with the ATI card rather than the NVidia card. Your thoughts?

nvidia hates AMD/ATI more than Intel. Also if you visit their website www.geforce.com you will see that all benchmarks are done with intel cpus.NVIDIA cards favour intel cpus while amd cards run better with amd cpus.Back in the day when I had a ati 4830 plus an core 2 quad I experienced many problems with TWIMTBP games like crysis. Now
I have a intel core i7 870 plus gtx 260 and have encountered no problems
