Hello everyone so I have this old motherboard I know, I'm considering upgrading to this CPU, since I could do it for dirt cheap and I don't plan on buying everything a-new just yet. Thing is, it doesn't list that CPU as compatible, but I wonder if it could work anyways? since there's another xeon listed and it says it's compatible. I guess the only way to know is to test it but I want your opinion if I have a good chance of getting it to work.

The best answer is "maybe". It is not shown as a supported CPU by the manufacturer, but a similar Xeon is shown.
The 1270 and the supported 1231 are both in the same family -- https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u.../78581/intel-xeon-processor-e3-v3-family.html

No, it does not say that.

There is no BIOS version behind that Xeon model and most likely is just a typo, why that one Xeon is listed there. Moreover, all Xeon E3 v3 CPUs need ECC RAM to work. But that ECS MoBo does not support ECC RAM, only the standard, non-ECC RAM is supported.

So, even if you put E3-1231 v3 into there, there are no BIOS versions that support it nor can MoBo use ECC RAM. So, it won't work.

So that's a real bummer, guess I'll have to buy new components.
