Will putting my fps cap on 999 on CSGO do damage to my GPU?

Some guy said putting my fps cap above 300 will do damage to my gpu (980 ti) because it puts strain on the chokes and transistors on the gpu for power regulation, basically it's using unnecessary power and shortens my gpus life. Is this true?

Solution

Not at all, the fps can never damage the GPU.
Nothing can damage the GPU except for high overheating or unsafe voltage.

Also CS:GO is a CPU based game so having a high end GPU isn't too helpful.
It barely uses any GPU power, especially on a high end GPU.

Did a 12 year old tell you that? ^^

No. Plenty of games can push a GPU to it's limits. If that was true then low to mid range gpu's would be blowing up everywhere. It is however a waste in general. FPS beyond your screens refresh rate makes no difference what so ever. Basically even the fastest monitors already cap your fps to 144 fps.

No because your GPU probably isn't even going to reach that framerate anyways. 😉 (Except for in menus) Even if it does, it won't damage your GPU, though it could grow louder (with the fans moving a lot more to work more)

The cap means nothing. It's basically just for when you don't want to go above like 30 fps or something, putting it crazy high like at 999 is basically just telling it that it shouldn't stop at a certain framerate.

I have a i7 5930k btw but this guy is very negative and always says some stupid shit, so just to be sure I come on here to be sure.

For example if you have a G3258 + R7 250X VS G3258 + R9 270X the difference in performance is barely noticeable when it comes to CS:GO.

My i5 4690K on 3.5 Ghz gets around 270fps ~ 320 fps, however when it is overclocked to 4.6 Ghz and overclocking the RAM gave me a stable fps of 360fps.

i7 5930K + GTX 980 Ti is an amazing combo!
