Will the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO fit in my mid-tower case??

Solution

It will be a close fit, but should fit just fine.
Just keep in mind that often with the 212 Evo its high profile RAM that is the problem, as the heat sink is very wide and quite low.

It looks like it may not. Apevia doesn't go to the trouble to list the cpu cooler height allowed by the case so it makes it more difficult. A user here said they tried and no luck even with the 200mm side fan removed.

The 212 evo is a bit tall for its size but pretty normal for larger air coolers. The x-trooper is a bit narrow by today's case standards and the side fan takes up more space inside. You might have better luck with the cryorig h7, it's 145mm tall instead of 160mm tall (a little over 1/2" shorter). No confirmation that I know of for that case and you may still have to remove the side panel fan to give it room. It's a bit better of a cooler than the 212 evo despite being smaller.

I agree with the Cryorig H7, but the Shadow Rock LP might be a better choice for you.
Runs similar temps and is very quiet while being a low profile cooler, hence the LP in the name.
Worst case scenario though, if you can't return the 212 Evo, a long used method has been to side mount the top fan in order to allow for better case clearance, although the cooling may be a few degrees worse, which is kind of minimal in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks for the advice! I was actually able to cancel my order, which is good. I have an i7-6700k with a LGA1151 socket. Out of your recommendations which one do you think would be the right choice for me?

Nice!
Given your space constraints the Shadow Rock LP appears to be the perfect choice.
All LGA 1150 compatible coolers work with skylake due to the same mounting positioning, so nothing to worry about.
If you can find the H5 or H7 for around 40 bucks its worth looking at, but the prices are just terrible at the moment, and the Shadow Rock LP performs essentially the same function with a lower profile.
