In newegg they have a ton of good boards with the 775 slot but most of them dont say anything about a core 2 duo. Will any 775 mobo work or do I have to get one that supports the core 2 duo?

This is the biggest issue out there right now for Core 2 guys. Call the dealer instead of buying on line. Make sure the board is BIAS compatible. Not all boards even of the same product line are compatable. The Core 2 takes a lower voltage and the BIAS has to understand that.

example: Intel D795XBX is only compatible with V304 or later. Unless you have another 775 chip with which to do a BIAS update, you will be stuck with no way to update.

NewEgg, Tiger Direct, and Tank Guys all understand this and can help.

If you can wait a short time (maybe a week), Abit just announced their top of the line 975x AW9D-MAX board which is not only conroe copatible but is also quad core ready as well

Quad core shouldnt be any more than a BIOS update, IF even that . . .

ABIT AB9 Pro

I've read that some of the Gigabyte boards are very solid OC'ers, but if OC'n isnt your bag, or doesnt matter if OC'n is the absolute max offered by any board, then this board should be very good. ABIT makes very solid, stable boards, that perform very well, and tend to last for years (I own two that are both each 5 years or older, and still working fine). Anyhow, if you look on newegg, go to motherboards -> intel compatable , and you'll see a drill down list (or rather like 4 or 5 drill downs) that have C2D capabilities.

The Newegg site is very good for finding compatible MB's. When you first select motherboards you are taken to a screen that allows you to select socket type and then processor. You can drill down further by vendor and/or features.
Give it a try.
