Hi. So I’m about to buy my components and build a gaming pc but I’m on a fixed budget. The rig looks like this:
i5 8400
GTX 1050 Ti
16GB of ram
650w 80+ silver
So really what I wanted was to buy a good CPU that will last for about 5 years and a decent GPU that will play most of the games on medium-high settings at 1080p 60fps and I would upgrade it in about 2 years. So the question is if this is a bad idea and instead I should get i3 8100, 8GB of ram and a GTX 1060 6GB version. I don’t want to get a bad bottleneck but also I’d really rather be upgrading my GPU than CPU+ram and maybe a new motherboard as well. So what should I do? How much will the 1050 ti bottleneck 8400? Should I be worried?

Its always better to invest more into your CPU than your GPU. Yea the 1050 TI itself is a slower GPU than the GTX 1060. But, if you plan to upgrade it in the future, then it doesn't matter.

The i5 8400 is a great CPU. In gaming it would be held back by the 1050 TI, but the same can be said for any other GPU you pair it with. The better the GPU, the better the gaming performance.

I'd say ignore the i3 8100.
