[SOLVED] Will the new 3080 work with Asus Rog Strix z390 -E motherboard?

Hi all,

I want to get the new RTX 3080 but have seen that it is PCIE 4.0. My motherboard as labelled above is PCIE 3.0. Will the new card work on my motherboard?

Secondly is it worth upgrading to a PCIE4.0 motherboard to get the benefits of the matching PCIE4.0 MB and GPU, and will I need to get one of the new 10th Gen CPU's or will my intel 9700k work with it?

Z490 is still PCIe 3.0

All versions of PCIe are bckwards compatable.

you could put the 3080 in a PCIe 1.0 slot and it would work.

the 3.0 will be a little slower than a 4.0, but not significantly

So many.... Will the RTX3080 work in my motherboard posts! Yes. It will work in any motherboard basically made in the last decade for certain! I wouldn't put it in a really old board but it'll still work.

Z490 is still PCIe 3.0

technically, they're both, z490 is built to support pcie 4.0, so much so that rocket lake cpus will come with pcie 4.0 and with a bios update the z490 boards will be able to pcie 4.0
