The RAM I have is 1600 Corsair Vengeance RAM, I don't remember exactly what it is, but its 1600 16GB and I'm 80% sure DDR3,(back in like 2013 is when I got it)

maybe this is it? but 1866 not 1600

Lastly I think my case is ATX. I have an Alienware Aurora R3 (2011) will this work?

I meant that getting a cpu past an i5, you get less fps performance increase for the price.
The 5820k would perform similarly with your i7 2600k in gaming. You won't need to change it for the next 5+ years for gaming or applications .

So the 5820k would work similar as my 2600k? I assume at least a small increase in performance? I get 40-60 in most games. (or in games like league where it isn't demanding on graphics 300+ fps).
Would a 4xxx series be better for me to get an increase, cheaper and last longer 3-5+ years?

Secondly do I need to get a new windows CD? Its the default DELL alienware Win7 Home, pretty sure its OEM.

For gaming you not getting much fps increase from an i7 2600k to an 5820k. Same with a i7 4790k.
You will definitely still get 40-60 fps in your games. But since you using productivity application, the 5820k would be beneficial.

So if I'm happy with how my software applications work, they don't feel slow to me at all. It would be a bit of a waste to get the 5820?
A lot of games recently are saying to have a 3xxx-4xxx i7 processor. Will I be fine in these games to keep the 60fps.

Also if recording gameplay factors into this I do that occasionally too. This always seems to drain my FPS and overall performance even with a GPU increase of 6950->7970->R9 290x.

FPS recording will always dips your performance when you record something compared to when you not recording.
If you happy with your current set up then you don't need to upgrade at all.
Your cpu is still fine especially since you overclocked yours. There has been a huge leap in cpu development so since the 2nd gen Intel cpu it has been small increments of increased performance.

I see people who have similar pc set ups, decent high end GPU, SSD, 16-32gb RAM, but a 3xxx-5xxxx i7 processor and they keep the 60+FPS, while mine goes to 20-40 in some games. Will this help bring it up to the 60 range still? Because I'm totally fine not upgrading if I don't have to, because the list is in that 800-900 range because I realized I probably have to rebuy windows.

Your build should be able to keep 60 fps if you can tweak your settings for each game and still be at near max settings.
The CPU is fine, it probably more down to the GPU. The R9 290X does require a decent airflow inside the case so it doesn't thermal throttle.
You would need to buy a new window licence if you change your motherboard.

The GPU temps range from 60-84c from games like fallout or skyrim to Watch dogs, gw2, and Dragon Age Inquisition. The idle temps are 19-30c, depending on how cold my room is.

I don't have the GPU Overclocked at all, Core clock is 1030, memory clock is 1250, fan speed is 60%, the PCI fan is 100% speed. No matter how much I tried to record with the three GPU's the performance always seemed the same, I've upgraded everything but the MB and CPU(stock 2011, but OC'd CPU)

It does seem though with a game like skyrim which is heavily modded, getting the r9 290x pushed the fps to 60 more often, it flickers from 55-65 range now. But the second "things" start happening where more objects need to load it will drop to 30-50.

So for performance the CPU wont be the answer, and I guess the motherboard also wont be. Am I just stuck until better CPU's come out? I see all these benchmarks getting like 110-170 FPS but my pc gets 50-60.
This is why I thought a new CPU was needed.

Not all benchmarks show what settings they use and they may vary. A modded skyrim has many variables, check if your vram usage goes over 4GB, if so, then that one reason for the fps drop when you load new textures.

Last Time I checked it does not go over it. it is generally 59-60FPS constantly except for Whiterun which is the city with one of the most performance costing places in the game, that goes to 40-50 sometimes 30. But when I record that goes to 40-60 and 20-30 for that spot. while people get 60fps the entire time. But if a CPU isn't going to help then I guess that is a relief for my wallet.
