Will this memory work with my asus sabertooth x79

It'll work, not sure why you'd want to run dual channel on a quad channel mobo, could have saved money and gone to a 1150 rig, unless you plan to buy another 2x8GB set down the road which isn't a good idea, no guarantee the the two sets would play together

I understand the risk.

But it was what I had to do for my CPU's sake. It required a 2011 socket, and this is what I found. Plus, I'd heard good things about the Sabertooth.

However, as an amateur, I really do appreciate your time and response.
