Will this plat WoW?

I think everyone was recommending a 4650 because of the stellar "quality" of most OEM power supplies. He was originally considering an E-Machines, then based on Anandtech recommendations plus low prices post Christmas, we were discussing his options with Acer's or Dell's.

I'll stop recommending Phenom X3's or I'll get lynched. I still think it does well vs. an E7300 at stock (and no one overclocks an OEM; Alienware doesn't count). If he builds his own, I wouldn't recommend anything less than a 4830, but his price range is only up to $550.

I agree with you that the x3 competes with a E7200 but not when it costs $100 more. That money would be better spent on a videocard instead of using integrated graphics.

I would too but I think its only 350watts. If he was willing to pick up a 500watt PSU he could go with a 4850 but we need to realize he only wants to play warcraft and it really doesnt need that much power.

A 3650 isn't bad. My wife's playing LOTRO with one, though she's getting a 4830 soon. A 4670 is way better than the 3650. Often by as much as 20 fps or more.

This is a much better choice at just $18 more, or $8 more with the rebate.

We need to petition Anandtech to update their old WoW CPU/GPU reviews. They could add LOTRO: MoM and WoW: WotLK to an article with their new MMO benchmark: Age of Conan. I'd love to see a comprehensive review at all resolutions with CPU's and GPU's at all price points.

Here's their blast from the past:

I still had a Radeon AIW 9800 Pro with a P4 Northwood 2.4 on an i865 mobo back then, but I didn't start playing an MMO till LOTRO.

Yea a 4670 isn't bad at all, 10 dollars more.
79.99 plus your shipping though. He only wants to spend 550.
I'd say the MSI Radeon HD 4670 : core - 750mhz mem. - 2000mhz then if he is willing to go for it.

I'm now agreeing with nimso that the E7300 Acer @ $440 is a good deal, with the 4670 ASUS card. I think OEM's are clearing out post Christmas inventory and won't have these prices for long.

So he needs to decide or build, and since he's not built before, maybe an OEM like the ones we recommended are a good idea?

My mind is gone LOL. I said 8750 when I meant the 8650 triple core from Acer and nsim086 recommended an Acer for $439 with the E7200, but I kept typing E7300.

Must be secret marketing imprinted into that Anandtech sub $1000 article. :na:

Really, I was impressed with that article because the $835 AMD build is close to mine and the Intel build for $835 is what I recommended to my friend who wanted a cheap Intel build and can spend that much. Except for the PSU, everything is as I recommended it.

Here's that Acer E7200 link:

Has the OP given up? Have we argued too much? Did he just get the E-Machines?

The Dell deal is gone. So I am going to go with Acer I think. But I still am going to try a build very soon. Thank you again for all your help!

He hasn't been on. Hopefully he goes with the E7200 and gets a descent card.

Fullmetall, my email is nsimo86@hotmail.com if you want to forward it to me.

Jay, I'm guessing since this would be your first build you wont be overclocking. If thats the case you should probably go for a less expensive mainstream mobo and use the saved money to buy a better processor and videocard.

Sorry didn't want to read the entire discussion... just wanted to add. Ive played WOW on a p4, integrated graphics card, with 1.5gb ram and a 56k dial-up modem. It honestly played very well considering. I wouldn't call it ideal, but WOW is very hardware friendly and thats part of its mass appeal.

i've seen ocz always out perform gkills most the time. If your gonna go with the HIS 4670 card at 89.99, why not just go ahead and get the saphire 4670 1gb at 89.99?
