Will VIA step up and in once AMD is gone by 2008

wow my first post, ever

Anyway here, where i live, 3 years ago in local computer shop, there was one premium computer system intel, 2 middle range intel, low range intel and one amd, only if you were interested. 1 year ago there was one premium system amd, 2 middle range intel, amd and one low range amd. Now thanks to Core 2 duo there are 2 premium system amd, intel, 2 middle range amd,intel and one low range amd. So amd is not going to die.
But 3 years ago people were interested in what CPU is inside, today they just buy for their kids and are only interested in price. (i live in poor country)
CPU's are becoming a comodity like cars, drinks e.t.c. I truly belive in the thing somebody sad, today one is a top dog, tomorow will be other. It is just the timing that gets people pissed.

exactly what I have been trying to tell pope, just about every thread he starts, he is either chased out, or it ends up locked. He posts way too many controversial topics, and that's wherein his problem lies

They aren't "Controversial", he just stupidly states his opinion as fact which will draw flames from pretty much everyone.
 
People have been predicting the demise of amd , since the k-5 days, and its still here, even with the present economic situation in this country i think amd can make it. Amd is a innovative company with great products. People are saying how great the core 2 is (and it is great), but look how many times that had to go back to the drawing board because a much smaller company built a superior product

I want AMD to stay. there is nothing good about INTEL being unchallenged. I am just preparing people for what is about to happen.

this is real close to what happen to 3dfx....

3Dfx bought STB ... then folded
AMD bought Ati... then ?

Intel has enough cash on hand to survive many many bad quarters

AMD does not.... too many false moves ...and its all over...
 
You seriously think AMD will be gone by next year.LOL.Dude,the only thing gone or going is your sanity.AMD might be having some financial difficulties,but that hardly means they are out of the game.We are talking about a multi-billion dollar company.Give them a break will ya.It takes time to recoup money spent on aquisitions.The purchase of ATI will pay off,sooner than some think.

I may sound like a dyed in the wool Inteliot.... but believe me i am not.... However, i can see what INTEL is putting the strap to AMD's rear end with the specific intent to run them out the market...

and its happening.

It is in everybody's best interest if AMD hung around to make CPUs, and they will --- the talk of AMD folding is a little premature based on the data.

AMD will be in for a really tough 2007, but Barcelona will come in volume and begin to raise ASPs and margins will recover. But Barcelona is critical, as you said in another post.... execution is paramount.... if Barcelona delays 1 or 2 quarters, that could be disasterous.

Aside from watching you play Devil's advocate, which is quite fun really, I wish people would stop slamming you as much. But AMD will not fold so you don't need to argue this extreme.

Baron, on the otherhand, if there is anything good about watching AMD struggle, it is watching Baron come unglued. 😉

Thats why you jack are so respected and loved.... you could just join the flock and flame me for my views... but you see everything clearly

AMD is doing real bad right now....and things will go to DIRE if the K10 isnt the knight in shinning armor we all hope it to be

AMD has survived with less market share and less profit for years.

@ everybody else: Guys keep the pics up but go easy on LP. After reading this thread carefully it is evident that he is not trolling. He is just expressing his personal (a bit controversial but nevertheless) view on things.

with AMD gone... i have no doubt INTEL will get split up... then VIA will have the wiggle room to move in

OR nvida could buy VIA and Nvidia could take the 2nd spot

You kidding? Companies don't get in trouble for market raping anymore, like walmart, microsoft, and de beers... someone will complain, it'll go to court.... and then someone will rule "they've become too important" to penalize.

Everyone wanted AMD to grow. To get to be a challenge to Intel. They did. Then they bought ATI. They finally opened the door at Dell. But then Intel got the deal with Mac. Then Intel introduced the Core2Duo and almost overnight took away a good deal of the margins AMD had been enjoying for the short time they were kickin' Big Blue butt.

So are they down ? Sure. Are they out ? No way. Too much and too many are invested now. Will they once again produce a proc that'll blow Intel out of the water ? Quite possibly. But the question is will Intel be ready for them this time ?

Also, where does the ATI acquisition figure in here ? To be honest I really didn't pcture that move. A joint venture with nVidia would have been more likely IMO.
