Verizon Wireless does not have coverage in that part of North Carolina.

Other CDMA carriers, including ALLTEL and U.S. Cellular have service in
the area.

Replying to myself...

I meant to say that Verizon Wireless does not sell native service in
Wilmington. ALLTEL and U.S. Cellular are VZW's roaming partners in the
area. Both are marked as Extended Network.

Alltel is best across Eastern NC and SC down to the Mt Pleasant, SC area
just N of Charleston. VZW has some 1900 Mhz (read that LOW RANGE) PCS in
Myrtle Beach to reduce the bitching from the tourista VZW customers, but it
ain't much and they closed down the roaming to Alltel's 800 Mhz on PRL
toyphones a long time ago.

Not true Larry. Don't know about Charleston area as I haven't been there in
years but I haven't been anywhere in NC/SC where I can't use Alltel's 800mhz
signal. I can even use it here where Verizon has service and it doesn't
cost me anything.

I use Alltel, and was in Wrightsville Beach ... south end, near
Blockade Runner ... with a consistent "5 bar" signal for 10 days. I
_THOUGHT_ that Verizon used them there ... ???

hmm, here in Greenville SC where both are the "primary" carrier,
neither will use the other. A good friend has Verizon and I Alltel;
we've been "local" places where I had 5 bars and he no service, and
vice-versa.
