Win XP on sloooow machine?

I thought the minimum was a 233MHz P2? Why would anyone want to pair Windows XP with a system like that. It's a waste of money!!

AMD technology + Intel technology = Intel/AMD Pentathlon IV; the ULTIMATE PC processor

Even if it does, I wouldn't recommend doing so.

Update: I got really bored so I went ahead with the plan. Here's what I had to work with:

Pentium 233 MMX
Mastronic MS-5025S Motherboard
Two sticks SDRAM, one 64mb PC-100, one unidentified thing.
Virge S3 2mb PCI video card
$7 ASound PCI sound card
Unidentified ISA NIC
36x CD-Rom
WD 4.2gb HD

Had to update the Bios (latest was from 1998!) to get the thing to work at all. It still says there is ~92mb RAM in there even though it's definately more. It said ~42mb until I switched DIMM slots. Stupid thing.

The Bios on this lame machine is nearly impossible to get into. It took me a while to realize that the video card takes so long to initialize that the "press delete to enter bios" message is long gone before the first image pops up on the monitor. Got the hard drive formatted NTFS, started install.

Everything went fine except that it took about a gazillion hours to finish. Once done, to my suprise, everything works perfectly! And it's as fast as the old Win98 install was! I couldn't get the NIC to work so I switched to an old ISA DLink card. The card says it's working but I still can't get online or networked. The latest is "Destination host not available". Hmph. So close!

I think it would, it requires a min of 64mb of RAM though. I install Win98SE on older machines, makes the experience bearable and the OS is fast and reliable if you know what your doing. You shouldn't have a problem getting 95/98 stable if you know how to tame the OS, I can get any 16bit OS as stable as Win2k.

"dude your getting a dell", is that kid trying to say he wants to stick his 'dell' in you?

Well, I got it running and run it does. Quickly I might add. The machine thinks it has 92mb for some reason but despite that, this thing runs shockingly well and fast. Chalk one up for XP!

Oh cool! I never thought XP would run on a older computer decent. My friend has it on his celeron and he complains about how he has to turn down the eye candy to get things smooth.

It must have been decent system in its day, im surprised.

That other unidentifiable stick must be a 32MB stick, and 4MB must be shared with video. That's pretty cool that it actually works decently.

Yeah, so far so good. Tomorrow night I plan to connect a video capture device to it and use it to, well, capture video. Just still images from surveillance cameras. I think it will work.
