Win Xp with Vista benifits

I have herd a story that Microsoft are going to make a new Vista OS, that still runs with XP programs, It also allows the use of Direct X 10. I have the vista toolbar on windows XP. the version i have herd is that is not as memory or process hungry like vista but still run vista and XP Programs. I want to know if this is true, if it is i will be very HAPPY :wahoo: If anyone can shed some light on this story please let me know thankyou

Not sure what you are driving at exactly but Google "windows 7" and I think you will see that MS is on the verge of releasing exactly what you want. 7 will be Vista with a lower profile and more polished.

In the last year or so Vista itself has matured nicely. Vista 64 is actually quite popular with many enthusiasts now - though there are still plenty of holdouts too of course. Hopefully 7 will put all this nonsense behind us.

As for running "XP programs" . . 7 will use the same drivers and run the same programs as Vista but at this point that is pretty much everything except really old stuff and some specialized enterprise stuff which never got updated to the new driver and security models.

Vista runs XP Programs quite nicely - 32 bit on 32 bit, 32 bit on 64 bit... Whatever.

The next OS is called Windows 7, it's in public Beta right now (I have a copy running on a second hard drive). Strangely enough, it also runs XP Programs.

What neither run are the old 16 bit programs. But that's what Virtual Machines are for.

Having said that: If you're looking for "XP 2010", I am afraid that you are sh*t out of luck. Neither Vista, Nor 7 are organized like XP. Nor do thay operate like XP. Nor do they look like XP. Nor can they easily be made to look like XP. They will not run your 10 year old crap like XP. They will not like your 8 year old printer. They will not like your 5 year old router, either. You will be forced to learn to do things a little differently. You will be forced to look in a manual from time to time.

You can either step up to the plate and learn it. Or stick your head back in the ground.

Any windows can run old hardware, the hardware vendor is just not going to write the drivers for it :)

Vista 64-bit will not run 16-bit apps, but I suppose if you have a powerful enough computer, you can run virtualization software with XP in it. XP can run 16-bit programs and Vista 32 can run 16-bit programs. BTW, the "real" upgrade to XP is Vista 64. Vista 32 was made for compatability transitioning.
