I have an Asus TUF Z790 gaming MOBO with an I7 13700K processor. I have 5 drives 1 X 2TB NVMe for system and programs. 2 X 12TB HDDs and 2 X 8TB HDDs. would like to run a hardware RAID1 array on the sets of HDDs. I sleep better at night knowing my important files are safe and redundant. Win11 for whatever reason will not recignize any of my drives if I turn on IRST or VMD for that matter Why? is there a work around I tried both before and after the OS install and nothing would allow me to set up Raid1 and install the OS so I have installed it without but I"m not giving up I'm open to suggestions or the solution if anyone has figured it out.

RAID 1 is not for 'safety' or data redundancy.

Rather, it is for uninterrupted uptime, in the event of a physical drive fail.
A RAID 1 does nothing for the more common forms of data loss. Accidental deletion, nasty virus, ransomware, etc, etc.

For real data redundancy, you need an actual backup routine.
There are several free or low cost applications that do this.

I use Macrium Reflect.

While I agree with your point of view, I do want protection from hardware failures. I do back up my info. I still like the ability to hot swap a drive if it is starting to display issues. I have alot of data and a monthly backup is lengthy. just can't understand why Microsoft is trying to control how we manage our data.

I am backup to a 16TB external drive that is running 2 drive in a Raid 1 hardware-controlled environment

That’s why you do daily incremental back ups and not one monthly back up. Please read the link that was provided above what you have done will not protect you at all it’s giving you a false sense of security AND you are wasting one physical drive

I personally took his advice and use that to set up my back ups and now I keep rolling back ups and I can restore from any time in the last month. I don’t have to play games I don’t have to swap drives and I never lose any data.

if you’re saying that having a proper back up scheme is too much work then you’re already lost. No RAID is going to save you.

as for your hardware issue, I have never heard of anything like that so I will wish you good luck and hope that someone else who knows will respond
