I fly mostly helicopters in fs9 and I have tryed too set different windy
weathers but it did not seem to have any influence on the aircraft when
hoovering or flying, The weather is set to highest realism.Any suggestions?

Something that is true, but I don't know if it really is part of the
simulator, is the fact that a helicopter pilot doesn't think twice about
winds unless (1) the gust spread is over 15 knots or so or (2) Steady
state wind speed of over 40 knots in a bell 206 (and if in a Blackhawk
it's much higher) or (3) you are flying in an area where you are likely
to experience moderate to severe turbulence like in mountain flying.
Winds don't throw a helicopter around like it does a light fixed wing.

That's because helicopters don't really fly... they simply beat the air
into submission... 😉

Hi boB, I guess induced flow may become an issue in mountain flying whilst
performing hovering /extraction type flying. Changing weapon platforms from
a gunship to a medivac platform for example, without an experienced member
on board, may become an experience that one will not forget......

It reminded me of a video I watched way back in flight school. It shows
the rotor blade dampening much of the turbulence before it would get to
the pilot seat.

Here are some familiar videos but maybe a few new ones. Be sure to
watch the RC Helicopter video down toward the end. Caution, it takes
you to a X rated web page where you click the sentence indicating the
video. The page has very small pictures so nothing big jumps out at
you, but that guy is great with that little helicopter.

You guess right I believe. Mountain rescue flying takes a lot of skill
and proficiency. I couldn't safely do it right now. Too long out of
the cockp.... er .. cabin. (Been watching deadwood)

Does auto-rudder do anything to cancel out the "weather-vaning" effect of
winds on the helicopter? If so, have you got it turned on? I definitely
notice the effect winds has on the helicopters, especially hover-taxiing
with a strong tail wind. Try turning the thunderstorm weather model on and
seeing what happens.
