I have upgraded my duron 800mhz to run a windowsxp pro build 2600... However when i shut down my system, it won't switches off on its own. I will have to manually off the power button on the casing to switch it off when the screen appear " Its now safe to switch the system off" . Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my system? Thankz...

Some motherboards dont have that function compatible with XP even if it did function with w98 for example. You could try to update your bios. Check the manufacturers homepage... Update the drivers Windows Update recommends you.

you don't happen to have roxio easy cd creator on your system do you?( Especially if you have the "Take Two" portion of the program installed) If so, get latest patch on their website

I'm assuming that you have an ATX power supply as you seem to have not had to press the on/off button before upgrading to winXP.

look <A HREF="http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnxp.htm" target="_new">here</A> at the bit that describes POWERDOWN ISSUES which, according to this site, is what you have instead of a shutdown prob.

Enabling Advanced Power Management Support worked for me. But i also updated the drivers for the intel modem that was in the machine, which might have been the cause.
I also removed Roxio easyCD as i think it sucks anyway :)

Good luck... I know this problem is annoying.
